The first edition of the New England Festival of Ibero American Cinema (NEFIAC 2010) is presently accepting feature length narratives and documentaries, shorts and animated films for its program. These productions must be from, about, by or related in some way to Latin America, Spain or Portugal or their cultural heritage.

NEFIAC has four competition categories in its program receiving a cash prize. Not all films accepted for screening during the festival will be part of the competition program. ONLY films with English subtitles will be accepted for the competition programs. By submitting your film you are confirming you have the public screening rights of this work. Our Selection Committee will be choosing the films that qualify for each program and a guest jury attending the festival will award the prizes for each category. The awards will be announced at the closing ceremony. The categories are:

• Emerging Directors Award: $5,000
  Feature length narrative films from, about or by an emerging director from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, or the United States, provided that the director is of a Latino/Portuguese background and/or the film is produced totally or in part in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the subject matter reflects the Ibero American experience. To be eligible for the Emerging Directors Award, the production must be one of the directors first three feature narrative films, completed no more than five years prior. In addition, in order for the film to be selected for this program, the film must be a debut showcase in Rhode Island.
  Submission fee for this program is $35 per film.
• Best Documentary Award: $1,000
  Feature length documentary films (no less than 50min) from, about or by a director/producer from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, or the United States, provided that the director/producer is of a Latino/Portuguese background and/or the film is produced totally or in part in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the subject matter reflects the Ibero-American experience. There are no limitations to apply for the Best Documentary Award.
  Submission fee for this program is $15 per film.
• Best Short Film Award: $1,000
  Short documentary or narrative films (no more than 30min) from, about or by a director/producer from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, or the United States, provided that the director/producer is of a Latino/Portuguese background and/or the film is produced totally or in part in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the subject matter reflects the Ibero-American experience. There are no limitations to apply for the Best Documentary Award.
  Submission fee for this program is $15 per film.
• Audience Award:
  All feature films showcased at NEFIAC are eligible for this category. The public will use an anonymous ballot system to measure the popularity of each film.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are an independent filmmaker living in Latin America and the submission fee is too high for you to pay, please let us know and we can wave it so your film can be part of our program.
